Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of June 14, 2026
• The best bridge over any divide among us as a people is a line outside a men’s room. We’re all thinking the same thing: “Should I just go outside and pee on a tree? And will these other guys join me to reduce the risk of getting arrested?”
• When I shave—rather, over-trim—my beard, I am always surprised by what I see. My kids think I look younger. I think, This is what I really look like? Weird.
• It’s not about getting over things; it’s about getting through them.
• Depression does terrible things to wonderful people. And it makes wonderful people do terrible things. Things they think are right to do at the time but are the most wrong in the long run. Depression does terrible things to wonderful people. Even when those wonderful people aren’t the ones terribly depressed.
• More and more, there is less and less room for one to make mistakes. The smallest infractions can undo a life otherwise not so terrible. Unless you’re a rich pedophile. Then, you know, anything goes. So I have to teach my kids to be either: A) Perfect angels or B) Sadistic monsters.
• A closing chapter is its own reward.
