A History of Rails and Waiting - An “El” Train Diary
Not too long after that I got my friend Jaz, who’d grown up in the suburb of Berwyn fer petesakes, to cross from one car to the next via the emergency doors at each end while the train was in motion. We had no reason whatsoever to move seats, but she’d never done it before and the cheap thrill put a wide smile on her face and lights in her eyes I couldn’t resist indulging.
The Dumbass Tree
The tree loved the woman but even more than the woman
The tree loved the idea of being in love.
What the tree didn't know
Because trees were long on roots but fucking short on brains
Was that woman only loved two things:
Herself and immediate gratification.

If There is No Evil, How Can There Be Good?
"We fat all creatures else to fat us,” Hamlet states, “and we fat ourselves for maggots. Your fat king and your lean beggar is but variable service—two dishes, but to one table. That’s the end.”

Uvalde cops lie. They are cowards. They are partly responsible for the death of 19 children and two adults. But, hey, at least they got to return home safely to their family so they can talk about how hard their job is—handcuffing parents who are begging them to be brave and do the thing they swore to do: protect their community.

His social media accounts were filled with rantings about “free health care”, “women’s rights”, and “disrupting the domestic supply of infants”.
The Campfire Rule
Intense self indulgence is rarely very different from intense self destruction. It’s just a slower version of it. Unless you’re in Vegas and then the two are roughly equivalent.
I Believe... [Decency is In Person]
I believe... that there is more decency in holding a door open for a stranger you can see than every tweet ever written for a cause that affects people you’ll never know. The first is an act of service; the second is a linquistic selfie taken and shared for approval.
The Unique Power of the Roadtrip
The life as I knew it was blown to bits a little over a month ago. I have a Prius (red so it's like a pocket protector with a Clash sticker). I had a destination (Kansas, home of my parents and sister). And lots and lots of road in between.

I Believe… [Family Levels the Field]
I believe... that family is who you hang with to remember who you are rather than who you thought you were.
The Chameleon
"OK. Calm down," responded Davis. "This is a classic John Hughes kind of dilemma. You're dating three different women. You like each one equally but for different reasons. Let's really make a Nick Hornsby list and see who you see yourself with in, say, seven years.
Being an escort for me was like being a scrapbooker on Etsy for most other single moms trying to pick up some extra money. The only difference was that I could make a few thousand bucks for one hour of potential discomfort versus making a few hundred for several hours of suffering through handmade clip art. I’m a pretty open-minded person, but I cannot for one second believe that there is any joy in being hunched over a desk, cutting and pasting other people’s memories together. It seems so lonely and juvenile.
