Hazy, I Pee, Eh?

by David Himmel

Life comes clearer on a hot, hazy summer day.
Sunburnt shoulders hunched from carrying the weight of the world
And the weight of your child and his laughter.

Never mind the heft of that past life.
Those past summers of thrill, of terror
Of resentment and anger.
Never mind her. Never mind you.

Never mind.

Whenever everything feels good like a baby soaked in warm water and sun
And laughter and bright eyes with long, wet eyelashes
And curtains for time’s summer stock.

Take stock.

Clear clarity goes hazy when the sun heats your magical blood.
And clouds the napping child in a hammock of love.
