Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of February 1, 2026

by David Himmel

• “Stop, look, and listen” is great advice for crossing the street, but it also applies to entering a new job, a new relationship, a new… well, anything. Best to learn the lay of the land before you go reaping and sowing, lest your efforts be met with extreme distrust and petulant resistance.

• One reason I prefer summer to winter is that there is less laundry to do in the summer. No layers, way fewer socks being used. In the winter, one load of laundry is, like, two days’ worth of clothes.

• “American Pie” is one of the most ridiculous and confusing songs in the Great American Song Book. Musically, the song is great. Lyrically, it’s an abortion clinic’s dumpster fire.

• Modern conveniences can be so inconvenient. Like, when my iMessages don’t sync between my phone and my laptop. Ugh!

• Find and keep friends who bring something to your life. Friends who are the fireworks, the booze at the funeral, the punk with the purple mohawk at the Pope’s bar mitzvah. Yeah, okay… it’s the Kerouac quote.

• The biggest problem with influencer culture is how hard they try to be authentic. Authenticity will never be the result of trying hard.
