Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of October 26, 2025

by David Himmel

 • What is a priest’s favorite Halloween season movie? Child’s Play. Obviously.

• The trick to receiving decent, or at least, attentive, healthcare is to ask questions and say things in a manner the physician has likely never heard before. Don’t be gross or bizarre, but be creative. Sure, it helps if you’re naturally witty or have a basic understanding of the healthcare system, but anyone can do this. Well, anyone who can afford a doctor’s visit.

• Risk is not fear, risk is informed danger.

• All art should make you feel something. Anything at all. Books, movies, plays, blog posts. That’s why you consume. To feel. Consider your favorite things. They’re your favorite because they make you  feel something. So, suck it up—all of you—and dive in.

• I’m becoming more punk as I get older. In music taste, yes, but more importantly, in socio-political taste. The younger version of me shopping for NOFX records would be proud.

• Divorce, serious relationship breakups deal a rough hand. If you play your cards right, your ex can help you be a better version of you. The perk of which is that you’re a better partner in the next relationship. It’s that whole, learn-from-your-mistakes thing. The bonus perk is that it makes your ex wonder why you couldn’t have been this awesome when you were together and causes them to question their entire existence.
