The Devil Is…

How I burned my tongue

on adoration because

it happened to share

your likeness —

Chipped my teeth on

ridged curses that

tasted of candy

and sin —

Razor blade sharp

and stinging like venom

in all my precise cuts

left by your attention—

Misrepresenting intention

And donning it as

Passion, I’m reactive—

To cane sugar sweet lies

And warhead sour realities

Tongue is blunt force

And I don’t take it back—

Tired of apologizing

Like I didn’t burn my hands

In passions hearth to

Gather these pages—

I’m strung between

God and Satan

Rage on the Richter scale

And my teeth clenched

To silence—

The devil is

The passion inside me

Coupled with fire reignited

While I’m biting my tongue

To not rip candy lies

To fiber with an audience.
