Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of September 26, 2021

By David Himmel

• Rabbit, rabbit.

• When writing the phrase “feeble minded” but you misspell “feeble” six times before you have to punch it into the online dictionary… Ah, Jesus, I’m a feeble-minded idiot.

• Beware: We are in the Nesting Season. The Season of Nostalgia. Embrace it or be consumed by your darkest depressions. And know that no amount of convincing yourself that Sweater Weather means anything other than the northern hemisphere is preparing to die for a few months.

• I used to believe that the adage, “It’s better to have love and lost than to never have loved at all,” was nonsense. If you never loved and, therefore, never lost, you wouldn’t know what you’re missing or have suffered any great pains. Happily married now with a truckload of losses behind me, I still believe it’s nonsense.

• Sleeping in is the eighth deadly sin.

• Should I ever become deathly ill with no realistic path toward recovery, please place me on a small watercraft at the mouth of the Mississippi River, load it up with morphine and mushrooms, crank up Europe’s “The Final Countdown” and shove me out to sea.
