I Believe… [Permanent Desk Jockey]

By Don Hall

…that after nearly four years of a President I’ve been appalled by, amused by, and generally embarrassed by, Trump’s reaction to the Floyd protests leaves me thoroughly and indelibly disgusted. The world burns and he attacks Twitter and hides from protesters in the basement.

…that a police officer with a history of brutality complaints should, just like a domestic abuser, be legally prevented from carrying a deadly weapon of any kind. That officer should be permanently assigned to a desk job and not be allowed to work with the public in a person-to-person capacity.

…that is horrible to consider that thousands of protesters are willing to be shot, tased, tear gassed, arrested, or killed in protest of a cop killing an innocent man but no one was willing to do the same to actually prevent the murder.

…that giving complete immunity, authority, and military grade weaponry to fellow humans and expecting that none will become tiny despots is like shutting down the economy due to a pandemic for three months and expecting no one will lose their shit when given the opportunity.

…that the more violent the protest, the more Rightwing the reaction once it has past. Which is exactly why the violence and looting is coming from people with no love lost for George Floyd but plenty of agenda to paint the protests as violent.
