Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of February 2, 2020

By David Himmel

• There are always opportunities available. Some are small. Some are huge. Most of them are not in plain sight.

• The only thing that can bring an entire city of people together for one common cause better than that city’s team winning the Super Bowl is 9/11.

• The Republican Party has unquestionably revealed itself to be criminals and cowards while the Democratic Party has unquestionably revealed itself to be grossly incompetent cowards.

• This country isn’t doomed, but it should say its goodbyes to democracy and prepare for a short-lived capitalistic dictatorship.

• FOX News routinely refers to “the media” as being a big problem in this country, as if they, themselves are not the media. Of course, they are. And that’s a big problem with the media. On the other side of the spectrum is NBC and Brian Williams. Here’s a guy who actively lied for years about a story. He’s suspended for six months then kicked off the Big Anchor Desk at Nightly News only to be given a show and prominence at MSNBC. You should recall that Dan Rather was straight up fired as anchor of CBS Evening News and run out of town for making the mistake of not fact checking a story as thoroughly as he should have—not an uncommon mistake in journalism, which is why there are corrections run. Integrity in the media isn’t completely dead. But when it comes to FOX and (MS)NBC, it’s as dead as Kobe Bryant. FOX News = MSNBC.

• The problem with being calm and cool is that it prevents you from tapping into the panic required to do the amazing things right now.
