Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of September 27, 2020

By David Himmel

• Don Henley is the Ira Glass of rock ’n roll.

• An adherence to the Myth of American Exceptionalism is a comfort from hardships and bad day, and that which we cannot control. It is religion. It is a baby blanket. It is our emotional support animal. Its most fervent supporters and believers are our nation’s biggest babies.

• News of President Trump testing positive for COVID-19 finally brings some excitement to the long, boring news cycle that has been 2020.

• Solitude, scotch, and a fire can cure almost all that ails you.

• My wife spent 25 percent of this week canceling our cable and setting up Apple TV and the multitude of streaming services. Our Friday night will be spent together as she hosts a lecture on how all this shit works. At risk of sounding like I’m really old and should probably just die already, I really miss the days of one remote and eight channels.

• The sailboat goes on the hard this weekend. That can only mean one thing… It’s time to get severely depressed!
