Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of April 7, 2024

By David Himmel

• I remember being so happy when the Oklahoma City bombing happened. Finally, something on the news that wasn’t OJ. I’ve been chasing that high ever since.

• My favorite song of all time is “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” by Looking Glass. I love being surprised by this song when it comes on in bars or grocery stores or the radio. What I love even more is being surprised when this song comes on in TV shows or movies. I love that those Looking Glass guys are getting paid. I especially love it when the song is played under a gruesome murder scene. Thank you, Season 2, Episode 10 of Ozark.

• Speaking of… if we write what we know, there are a lot of criminals working in Hollywood. Still, not as many as in Washington DC! Whoa! Comedy.

• I’m beginning to think that the only way to ever completely get over a breakup is to have a new breakup.

• I’m trying to find the sweet spot between spending the workday at a job that doesn’t suck me dry, pays me enough to live appropriately, and gives me space to pursue true creative desires and energies. And this may be the thing that is the most anti-American of things: not letting my job define my career, but instead fund my life.

• Misery loves company because collaboration is the best way to get things done. So, either trying to get out of the misery or looking to float amongst it, misery needs its company.
