Cabin Fever Blues

By Elizabeth Harper

Staying inside
Itchy skin
Don't feel like watching the news
Don't feel like love
More trouble than it's worth
Haven't shaved my legs in a month
Cause really who gives a fuck

The wind chill is 40 below in Chicago
Kids didn't have to go to school
But I have to go to work
Go outside
Frostbite fingers and burning cheeks
Trudging through snow I almost slipped
Not going out again tonight
I'm staying in
Is it wrong to have pizza and beer delivered
When the weather's like this?
The main roads are cleared at least
Maybe they'll appreciate the business
After all a girl has got to eat
And drink and drink those blues away
Maybe the sun will come out another day
Till then I'll just drink drink drink
The cabin fever blues away

Watch a crime drama on tv
Many are murdered
But the main character is rescued
Just in the nick of time
A revelation a reluctant but then intense
Emotional gesture bittersweet but well meant
Roommate goes to sleep
Turn out the lights
Take garbage to the kitchen
Leftovers in the fridge for tomorrow
Play with Kindle and iPhone in bedroom
Games books music
Facebook
Grocery orders
To-do lists
Write a poem
Send an email
Make notes for myself
Take some pills
Hit the sack
Everything is going to be okay
As I drink drink drink
And with magic wand masturbate
The cabin fever blues away
