Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of August 20, 2023

By David Himmel

• I should've been a plumber. At least then being covered in shit feels productive.

• Desperation leads to extreme measures. My great hope is that we take the path of healing rather than destruction.

• I watch a good chunk of television and I enjoy most of it. But I’m also starting to think that not having cable in college was the best thing that ever happened to me. It forced me and my roommate to find far greater and stranger ways to entertain ourselves. And that broadened our minds. So, yeah, maybe I should kill my TV. And my phone while I’m at it.

• Controlling your anger is a good thing. Like, not exploding is always a good thing. Keeps loved ones from getting hurt. However, the internal prison where that anger lives instead has worse conditions than a Fulton County jail. And that is not a good thing.

• Trump’s booking in that Fulton County jail shows he is six feet and three inches, 215 pounds. Ha. Uh, me, too, bro. “Two-fifteen? Uh… add a fourteenth charge: lying to a peace officer.”

• No matter how disciplined we are, our animal instincts will always prevail. You can’t fight biology and evolution and expect to win. But you can even the odds some by occasionally leaning into those lizard brain needs.
