The Most Popular Pieces of 2019 | A Literate Ape Roundup

By Don Hall

2019 was an odd year for The Ape. By far, the most significant change came when Dana and I decided to move to Las Vegas leaving David to take the helm in Chicago. We added some writers, lost some writers, and quickly discovered how tenuous our crummy business model was in light of a bi-coastal, non-marketing platform.

We had some LLC difficulties, some banking difficulties, and Himmel and I had to figure out how to accomplish the ApeCast via FaceTime.

That being laid out, we’ve still managed to keep our modest publication alive and continued to publish some intriguing work along the way. Over the course of 2019, the site has had 98,507 unique pageviews with 69,682 unique visitors. Considering that 2018 had roughly 73,000 pageviews, it seems like progress.

Here are the top ten most read pieces in 2019—apparently the problematic movies of the 1980s has been popular so you’ll all buy the book when it comes out in 2020, right?
