Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of May 17, 2020

By David Himmel

• Whatever privilege I had being born into a white, upper-middle class family was lost when I became a husband and father. Inside my home, I rank lower than the dog.

• The noise from both sides of the political spectrum continues to anger and frustrate me. But more, it’s really boring and uninspired.

• I’m not the best at taking care of myself. But if I can get four hours of quiet alone time every few days to slouch over a keyboard, that’ll keep me going during the long, troubling days.

• This is a wonderful time to be alive. The only better time would be the few months before God flooded the Earth. If you believe that crap, then you know it must’ve been a helluva party right before the Lord’s CONTROL+ALT+DELETE.

• Is there anything in the world cuter than a toddler parroting back to you, “Goddammit! Jesus…”? The answer is yes. That same toddler parroting back to you, “The fuck is your problem?”

• I have to remind myself daily that the amount of dust on my home’s surfaces is not a direct reflection on my place in life. It is, however a direct reflection on what a distracted, lazy piece of shit I’ve become.
