Notes from the Post it Wall | Week of July 28, 2019

By David Himmel

• I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but driving to and/or through Chicago’s western suburbs is an emotional drive through the deepest and darkest pools of my depression.

• My wife hit politics on the head: All political debates would be much better if the candidates were replaced by actors impersonating them.

• Fainting at a birthday party for a friend isn’t cool. Coming to and being convinced that you’re dead as people stand over you makes it less cool.

• Giving regard to nuance, considering the point of view of others, engaging rational thought, and removing one’s own predetermined reactions from the equation is the only way to successfully consider any situation.

• I need to write faster. I need to write better. I need to stop thinking about those things. Because while I’m thinking, others are beating me to the good work.

• Depression is perhaps at its most dangerous point when you become comfortable with it.
